The world of floristry is missing a trick if it doesn’t know about aquaponics!

In the flower trade?

Why grow flowers in traditional soil if they grow faster aquaponically? As with anything in an aquaponics system, it will grow roughly double the speed as it would in soil. Faster growth means more amazing flowers to sell, and therefore a far better business model!

As with vegetables, it is prudent to consider which flowers you use. For example, although it is possible to grow giant sunflowers in an aquaponics system, it is not as practical (or simple) when compared with shorter stemmed flowers.

Flowers also attract good insects such as bees which will help you pollinate the rest of your garden if you have one.

Imagine… an aquaponics system filled with tulips, orchids, roses and marigolds. Lovely!

Being a health-nut, London born Pippa has struggled to adjust to the lack of availability of lettuce and kale since re-locating to India. Previously naive to the extent of the worlds food struggles, she has now become obsessed with sustainability in food production and especially in India where it needs it the most (plus she’s also hoping to get her hands on some kale any day now). When she’s not writing for Aquaponics in India, she is usually found with her head in a book or in the kitchen experimenting with new vegetarian recipes.
